Transforming individual mindsets will create a powerful wave of change

We are now at a major turning point in history. Humanity’s science and technology continue to advance at a breathtaking pace. The electronics industry, in which we operate, is leading this advancement and reshaping technology itself through innovations in areas such as autonomous driving and robotics. At the same time, humanity’s relentless pursuit of economic growth has created countless crises severe enough to jeopardize our future. Environmental degradation is driving climate change, and natural disasters are becoming more intense and more frequent with each passing year. Meanwhile, economic inequality is giving rise to poverty and disparities in education, while equal access to employment opportunities and even social stability are under threat around the world.
If this situation continues, humanity will soon be driven into a crisis that threatens its very survival. We must first share a sense of urgency about these challenges. Terms such as “SDGs” and “carbon neutrality by 2050” are now so frequently covered in the media that we hear them almost every day.
To further accelerate our efforts toward a sustainable future, we have established a Sustainability Committee. The committee has undertaken two key tasks: assessing how our current business activities contribute to the SDGs, and identifying the key challenges we should address in contributing to the future of society. Through this process, we have identified material issues, and through addressing them, we aim to help solve broader societal challenges.
Our electronics-related technologies are, without question, core technologies for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. We believe that changes in individual mindsets will ultimately create a powerful wave of change, evolving our business activities into initiatives directly linked to sustainability. With this conviction, we will further deepen our commitment to sustainability management.
